IGNITE moves to new facility in Pictou County

IGNITE Atlantic has moved to a new facility in Pictou County at 352 East River Road to further support entrepreneurs and the innovation community in Atlantic Canada.

IGNITE is a local innovation hub where ideas become reality. Entrepreneurs, small businesses, and large industries all benefit from the structure, mentorship and opportunities provided. IGNITE encourages everyone to explore how they can make change possible in their communities. By engaging youth, communities, startups and industry to find solutions for challenges in the region, IGNITE is creating a local culture of innovation.

It has been just one year since IGNITE started in this region and it has have seen enormous growth. Within its new space, IGNITE hosts over a dozen startups, several student entrepreneurs, and has a dedicated area for community use, co-working, and a living lab. The building housing IGNITE will become known as the Innovation Cluster and also hosts partner organizations like Nova Scotia Business Inc., DEANS Tourism Association, Pictou County Chamber of Commerce, Y-Reach and Velsoft.

During the grand opening on October 15th, IGNITE could only welcome a few funders and partners due to physical distancing restrictions, but a community-focused open house is being hosted on Monday, October 19th from 12PM – 4PM during Small Business Week, so everyone can have a chance to experience the new space.

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) provided a $300,000 non-repayable contribution over two years to help IGNITE Atlantic Labs Inc. establish a business incubator serving Northeastern Nova Scotia.

“Investing in the innovation economy will help create good paying jobs by helping local businesses find new ways to solve old problems,” said Sean Fraser, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and to the Minister of Middle Class Prosperity, Associate Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Central Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages. “IGNITE’s new innovation hub in our community will help foster a culture of entrepreneurship at home, creating opportunities for people and businesses to thrive right here in Nova Scotia.”
