As summer rolls in, lawns across Nova Scotia start to grow fast—and two students from Pictou County are ready to meet the demand. Live Laugh Lawn, founded by Chase Hawkins and William Butland, is a student-run lawn care business that’s built a strong reputation for reliable, high-quality service.
Their story is one of initiative, hard work, and community connection, making it a great example of what IGNITE aims to support through our youth-focused entrepreneurship programs.
From Learning Opportunities to Real-World Impact
Before launching Live Laugh Lawn, both Chase and William participated in IGNITE’s $100 Challenge Camp—a program that gives students a small amount of capital and a few days to start and run a micro-business. The camp isn’t about building long-term ventures on day one, but about gaining hands-on experience, building confidence, and learning what it takes to turn an idea into action.
Their time at camp helped fuel their entrepreneurial spirit and gave them an early glimpse into the challenges and rewards of running a business—skills they now put into practice daily with Live Laugh Lawn.
What They Offer
Live Laugh Lawn now provides a full suite of professional lawn care services:
- Routine Mowing – Includes trimming, edging, and clean-up for a polished look.
- Garden & Mulch Beds – Enhances yard appeal and supports healthy plants.
- Hedge Trimming – Maintains tidy, healthy shrubs and hedges.
Spring & Fall Cleanups – Clears debris and preps yards for seasonal transitions.
They also offer branded merchandise, helping to build community presence and promote their growing business.
Why IGNITE Supports Young Entrepreneurs
At IGNITE, we’re committed to helping students explore entrepreneurship. Our youth programs—including the $100 Challenge Camp, pitch competitions, and hands-on mentorship opportunities—are designed to help young people test ideas and gain practical business experience.
Chase and William’s journey from camp participants to business owners is exactly the kind of outcome we strive to support: giving youth the space and resources to grow and succeed in their own communities.
