Connecting Rural Nova Scotia to a Global Network
IGNITE, alongside the Town of Bridgewater, the Municipality of the County of Kings, and the Pictou County Partnership, is connected to the International Network of Michelin Cities (INMC) Corridor of Incubators, an international network focused on building stronger connections between startup ecosystems in Michelin communities around the world.
The Corridor connects organizations and communities across countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Canada, and beyond. Through these relationships, Nova Scotia entrepreneurs have opportunities to connect with international markets, startup supports, partners, and fellow founders. The network creates new pathways for businesses interested in exploring opportunities outside Nova Scotia, while also giving our communities a chance to share the innovation happening here at home.
Our participation in the Corridor is ongoing, with new opportunities for collaboration, international connections, and startup programming continuing to develop. The INMC Nova Scotia International Startup Competition, which selected three Nova Scotia companies to represent their regions in Cuneo, Italy in 2026, is one example of what can come from these connections.

- The Competition
The INMC Nova Scotia International Startup Competition connects high-potential startups from Bridgewater, the Municipality of the County of Kings, and Pictou County to the International Network of Michelin Cities.
Selected startups will represent their region on an international stage at INMC Cuneo 2026 in Italy, gaining global exposure and meaningful connections.

What is this competition?
The INMC Nova Scotia International Startup Competition is a coordinated initiative across Nova Scotia’s three INMC sister regions: Bridgewater / South Shore, Municipality of the County of Kings, and Pictou County. Each region will select one startup to represent Nova Scotia at the INMC Conference in Cuneo, Italy in 2026.
What is the INMC?
INMC stands for the International Network of Michelin Cities — a global network of communities connected through innovation, economic development, and international collaboration. Learn more at https://inmc21.com/
What do selected startups receive?
Selected startups receive:
- The opportunity to represent their region at INMC Cuneo 2026
- Access to international exposure and a global innovation network
- Founder preparation and pitch support through IGNITE and partners
- Opportunities for introductions to ecosystem partners and stakeholders
What costs are covered?
Covered costs include:
- Accommodation and on-site costs in Cuneo, Italy
Startups are responsible for:
- Any additional expenses incurred (e.g., meals outside the program, incidentals, extended stays, etc.)
Who is eligible to apply?
Eligibility is based on Nova Scotia’s INMC membership holders. Startups must be less than 8 years old, and able to demonstrate a clear economic connection to the INMC host municipality/region.
Can I apply if my startup is not physically located in the host municipality?
Yes, in some cases. Startups may apply from broader catchment areas, but must demonstrate a meaningful connection to the INMC membership holder. See following question for more details.
What are the catchment areas for each region?
- Bridgewater (INMC member): Bridgewater or Lunenburg County
(Lunenburg County startups must show direct economic ties to Bridgewater.)
- Municipality of the County of Kings (INMC member): Kings County, West Hants Regional Municipality, and Annapolis County (including towns)
(West Hants Regional Municipality, Annapolis County, and towns are eligible, but must show direct economic ties to the Municipality of Kings County.)
- Pictou County Partnership (INMC member): Pictou County
(Pictou County startups are eligible, or those with direct economic ties to Pictou County.)
What does “connection” mean?
A connection could include:
- customers/contracts
- supply chain relationships
- employees based locally
- active operations in the area
- partnerships with local businesses or institutions
- demonstrated local economic impact
How many startups will be selected?
Nova Scotia will select three startups total:
- one from Bridgewater / South Shore
- one from Municipality of the County of Kings / Annapolis Valley
- one from Pictou County
What is the timeline?
The tentative timeline is:
- Early March 2026: Public launch
- March 31, 2026: Application deadline
- April 2026: Regional competitions/showcases
- By end of May 2026: Final selections
- Summer–Fall 2026: Founder preparation
- October 5-9 2026: INMC Conference in Cuneo, Italy
What stage does my startup need to be at?
This competition is intended for startups that are beyond the idea stage and can demonstrate:
- proof of concept
- early traction or validation
- a product/service with international potential
Do I need to be revenue-generating?
No, revenue is not required. However, startups must show proof of concept and market readiness.
Can student-led or youth startups apply?
This is still being explored. Youth participation may be reintroduced as part of INMC Cuneo 2026 programming. Updates will be shared as the competition structure is finalized.
Will there be pitch coaching or preparation support?
Yes. IGNITE will support:
- pitch refinement
- founder preparation
- International readiness support for the selected startups.
Can I apply to more than one region?
No. Startups should apply to the region where they have the strongest demonstrated connection.
How will applications be evaluated?
Applications will be reviewed based on:
- eligibility and regional connection
- innovation and value proposition
- proof of concept and traction
- scalability and international relevance
- founder readiness to represent the region internationally

Not every opportunity starts with a pitch. If you are not eligible to compete or are not interested in the competition format, you can still be part of the INMC Nova Scotia initiative.
