Road to Cuneo: Bioteem40 Is Building Big from Rural Nova Scotia

Bioteem40 did not start as a brand.

It started as a research and development project built around a probiotic formulation designed to support gut health, nutrient absorption, immune function, and foundational nutrition. As the work progressed, the team realized they had something they wanted to take beyond the R&D stage and into the market under their own name.

That decision became Bioteem40.

Today, the company is developing specialized probiotic and nutraceutical products from Windsor, Nova Scotia, including formulas focused on everyday nutrition and skin and connective tissue support.

There have been challenges getting to this point, but the team is now seeing the kind of growth that makes the next stage feel more tangible. That matters because Bioteem40 has never viewed itself as a business with only a local market in mind.

Their selection as the Kings County winner of the INMC Nova Scotia International Startup Competition gives them a chance to test that ambition in a very real way.

This October, Bioteem40 will head to Cuneo, Italy, to take part in the International Network of Michelin Cities Conference. For the team, the value is straightforward: meet people, make business connections, understand where there may be interest in the product, and start building relationships that could support international growth.

There is also something worth noting about where all of this is happening.

Bioteem40 is building a health and biotechnology company from rural Nova Scotia, not treating that location as a limitation. In the interview, the team talked about the satisfaction of seeing something developed in a small community begin to gain momentum and attract interest well beyond it.

That makes Cuneo less of a finish line and more of a meaningful next step.

In October, Bioteem40 gets to see just how far something built in rural Nova Scotia can travel.
