Rural Innovation Hub, IGNITE Atlantic has teamed up with the Sobey MacGregor Foundation to offer a free filmmaking workshop for youth in grades nine through twelve to learn from world-class film professionals in a fun, interactive and collaborative environment.
Registration is now open for the program which will run May 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2023 at IGNITE Atlantic, New Glasgow.
“We’re thrilled to bring this unique opportunity to young filmmakers in rural Nova Scotia,” says Doug Jones, CEO of IGNITE Atlantic. “Exposing rural youth to this type of programming offers the opportunity to acquire knowledge, develop skills and pursue a passion.“
Twelve youth will work with notable Canadian filmmakers, Shelley Thompson, Bob Mann and Tim Beers to create their own short film. Their support and hands-on experience throughout the program will provide participants an understanding of all aspects of production – from screenwriting to acting and production.
Tim Beers, who has been teaching filmmaking for over 18 years says, “Filmmaking is all about collaboration, and these students will have the opportunity to work with some of the best in the industry!”
